 

#  2021 Gilliam Fellows

 Three DMS PhD students were selected to receive [2021 Gilliam Fellowships](https://www.hhmi.org/news/mentoring-and-inclusion-are-top-priority-for-50-new-gilliam-fellows-and-their-advisers) by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. They are among 50 graduate students, who are conducting outstanding research in their respective scientific fields, and their advisers, who are committed to building a more inclusive scientific ecosystem, to receive the award. The adviser-student pairs are part of a program to advance diversity and inclusion in science. For up to three years, each adviser-student pair will receive an annual award totaling $50,000.

 The 2021 Gilliam Fellows and their advisors are:

 **Ya'el Courtney**, PhD student in Neuroscience

 **Dwayne Evans**, PhD student in Biological and Biomedical Sciences  
Thesis Adviser: [Cassandra Extavour](https://ad349da7-c95e-4e48-ba72-59f7e446add4/Cassandra%20Extavour), professor of organismic and evolutionary biology and of molecular and cellular biology at Harvard

 **Martha Ordonez**, PhD student in Biological and Biomedical Sciences
