# Diversity Demos November 05, 2020 A new multicultural series of short virtual cooking demonstrations for HMS residents, trainees, and fellows Session 1: How to Fry Plantains featuring Chef and Owner Cecelia Lizotte of [Suya Joint](https://www.ordersuyajoint.com), a Nigerian restaurant in Roxbury Thursday, November 5th at 7pm Register [HERE](https://harvard.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJElcuChqjIoGtGcTkbEmfBb5bsVGvGMzOKt) **Diversity Demos** is a new multicultural series of ~20-minute cooking demonstrations for HMS's minority residents, trainees, & fellows. Each session will feature a chef from a minority-owned restaurant in the Greater Boston area demonstrating how to make a simple snack or beverage (both cocktail and mocktail versions) and share a sample music playlist from their culture. Participants will be emailed a short ingredient list ahead of the session, and then cook alongside the chef while learning about the snacks, sips, and sounds from the culture associated with the featured restaurant. On **Thursday, November 5th at 7pm** we are launching the series with a session on **How to Fry Plantains**. Chef Cecelia Lizotte, owner of the Roxbury-based Nigerian restaurant [Suya Joint](https://www.ordersuyajoint.com/#/), will show us the proper way to fry plantains (oil, never butter!) and whip up an easy dipping sauce. After the demonstration, we’ll relax and chat as a group while enjoying our creations. Diversity Demos will be a stress-free and safe way for UiM residents to make new connections, strengthen existing relationships, and increase their culinary skills and knowledge.
