#  SHBT Student Malinda McPherson Selected for Forbes "30 Under 30" List

 Malinda McPherson, a Ph.D. candidate in the [SHBT program](https://shbtphd.hms.harvard.edu/) in the Division of Medical Sciences at Harvard Medical School, researches how humans hear music. She discovered humans have at least two distinct systems to process pitch, one of which helps listeners distinguish sounds in noisy environments. Her fieldwork with indigenous groups in the Amazon advances our understanding of the universality of music perception.
